How to plot this in polar coordinates:
abs(tan(x))^1/abs(tan(x)) for x=0 to pi

There is no built-in ability to draw polar graphs yet, sorry.

Although polar plots are not implemented yet, you could try something like this in order to get polar plots using 2D plots:
One should take care about singularities.
I used here a bit different function because there are differences between plotting the functions which should be the same. SMath gives some discontinuous regions (maybe a bug or problem? - do not know). Here is the picture - note how the lines get broken with only "tg" functions.
I might missing something here?
