For example

x+y+z=0
And now want to issolate Y.

y:=-(x+z)

Does smath know how to do that? And if so, is it capable of doing simplifications when doing so with more complicated equations?

You can use Maple Tools or Maxima plugins for this.

... more complicated functions YES, attached some examples.

Yes, this worksheet is "pluginless" and can isolate expressions from an equation in some cases.

isol_n2e.sm (73 KiB) downloaded 68 time(s).

For instance, it works also in the SMath in the cloud: https://en.smath.com/cloud/worksheet/HpYWFrCC

Simplification and isolation aren't the same. The exposed concept can be extended to develop a series of rules to apply to simplify expressions for some type of 'simplify' function, or rules can be added to solve more complicated equations.

Best regards.
Alvaro.

This is very good homebrew function. Thanks Razonar.
And now this is the part where Jean steps in and post something totally irrelevant.
