Control Valve Sizing Procedure
1. Introduction
The control valve is a flow controlling device. The orifice plate [just to name one] is a flow measuring
device. They both operate on the Torricelli principle.The orifice plate is sized to produce ΔP in relation
to the flow of fluid to be measured. The orifice sizing is iterated on itself and converges rapidly. Unlike
the orifice plate which is a fixed geometry, the control valve is a variable geometry and sizing does not
iterate on itself, it iterates on catalog pages of the designer trying to select the best compromise for the
flow range of the process and the service conditions. The material in this work sheet is largely based
on Fisher Controls and the ISA Handbook of Valve Sizing. More useful stuff is added for augmenting
the comprehension and best design of a project. The procedure is automated in the sense that it is based
on functions rather than nomographs.

====================

As it says: Guide Line for liquids/gases of "visible" flow/properties.
For microvalves [droplets] and viscous fluids: please consult manufacturers/suppliers.
